2014 Nissan ZEOD RC ‘Garage 56’ Racer

Prior to the past weekend’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, whose top prize once again went to Audi, Nissan revealed a revolutionary race car it plans to enter next year in Le Mans’ special ‘Garage 56’ entry for technically advanced, innovative vehicles.


The race car is called the ZEOD RC (Zero Emission On Demand Racing Car) and as its name suggests can drive, when desired, with zero emissions. Nissan will use it to develop technologies that could one day be implemented on a new race car destined for Le Mans’ premier LMP1 category.

Few details about its powertrain were revealed at the launch, but Nissan said the driver will have the ability to select between electric and gasoline power sources, a concept Nissan is also considering implementing on some of its road cars in the future. The automaker also said the ZEOD RC utilizes the same lithium battery technology found in its Leaf electric hatch and is capable of speeds in excess of 186 mph.

A source told Motor Authority that the ZEOD RC will be able to run one lap of Le Mans’ Circuit de la Sarthe on pure electricity for every six laps done using gasoline, with the batteries topped up via regenerative sources. The powertrain is believed to be an extended-range electric setup, though Nissan has said it will trial various setups between now and next year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The first tests of the ZEOD RC will start as early as this summer.

Nissan Moves Dealerships Back into Dense City Centers

The once crime ridden area called Hell's Kitchen in New York City is now considered to be an ideal location for many car companies.

"11th Avenue is the row where every manufacturer is represented.  As expensive as it is, if you are not on 11th Avenue on the west side of Manhattan, you're just not representing the brand correctly," said Nissan of Manhattan co-owner John Iacono.

John Iacono and his family just opened a new Nissan dealership, and a new Infiniti dealership, on the street.  The site takes up an entire city block in Manhattan, and Iacono says this new facility is his ideal.

"It's not one size fits all, and I think Nissan and Infiniti know that, and they're giving us the tools we need to compete in this marketplace," said Iacono.

Both Nissan and Infiniti have separate entrances to their facilities, and all customer touch points in sales and service are dedicated and exclusive to each brand.  Each brand has its own service advisors and specialized technicians under the same roof, making the most of this valuable real estate. Nissan Motor Company President and CEO Carlos Ghosn toured the facility centered in the city.

"We need to be where customers want to shop.  And it's changing, so we have to adapt and we have to change. Particularly we have to adapt not only at the location but we have to adapt what is being done inside the location," said Ghosn.

Employees here are shifting from sales people to something more similar to a product advisor. That's largely in response to the wealth of information now available to customers online.

"It's not only about the location.  It's also about what's being offered inside the location, what kind of support is being given to people to help them make the decision of buying the car," said Ghosn.
Ghosn says facilities like these will help bring the United States sales number back up to full potential.  The U.S. is Nissan Motor Company's second largest market.

"I would say the U.S. is still one of the brilliant spots of growth on the overall market, so we need to make sure that Nissan will be contributing to it," said Ghosn.

Nissan Named a Top Global Green Brand for 2013

Noted for its leadership in zero emissions mobility with the Nissan LEAF 100% electric vehicle, Nissan was ranked fifth place overall out of 50 brands that were selected. Nissan moved up 16 positions from its 2012 showing and was named the "top riser" in this year's report, which was released today by the leading brand consultant.

The Interbrand green brand report ranks brands based on a company's environmental practices and customers' perceptions.

Automotive brands took four of the top five positions. Reaching the top ten in only its second year of being chosen for the Interbrand top green brands roster, Nissan rapidly improved on last year's 21st place result.

Cited in this year's report was the Nissan LEAF 100% electric vehicle's positive effect on perceptions of the brand, and an array of eco-friendly actions such as plans to cut vehicle weight by 15 percent starting in 2017, and Nissan's collaboration with Daimler and Ford for the development of fuel-cell cars to be launched by 2017.

Nissan aims to contribute proactively to the sustainable development of mobility and society while seeking profitable growth. Accordingly, one of the key pillars of Nissan's corporate and environmental strategies is to maintain its leadership in electric vehicles. To that end, with over 65,000 100% electric Nissan LEAFs sold as of May 2013, it is the best-selling EV in history. This recognition as a top global green brand is another step forward in Nissan's commitment to reduce its environmental impact and communicate proactively about its corporate activities and innovative products to consumers.

I am the type of person who will call in with a ton of questions. If i forgot to ask something i will call back and keep going. Enrique got the burden of dealing with me, he was a great help too. Answered all my questions in a quick to the point manner. In my opinion he is the definition of excellent customer service. Specially if you can deal with my many inquiries, calls, show ups, and all the while maintaining a great attitude and a smile on their face.
Also i hate waiting but if it means waiting to speak to him directly, versus speaking to other technicians... i will wait.

Nissan GT-R Selected as Best of the Best Honoree in Robb Report's June Issue

The 2014 Nissan GT-R was recently named a honoree in the Robb Report's annual Best of the Best issue in its Sports Cars category. 

The 25th annual edition of the Best of the Best is a top guide to the world's finest new automobiles, yachts, hotels, watches, wines and more. Sports cars honorees are exclusively chosen by Robb Report editors. The Best of the Best issue is now available on newsstands and to Robb Report online subscribers.

"The 2014 GT-R was created to compete with the world's best sports cars, at a price that will rival any luxury sport vehicle," said Jon Brancheau, vice president, Marketing, Nissan North America.

“With enhanced high-speed handling, a zero-to-60 sprint time of just 2.7 seconds, and more refined ride comfort, we believe this year's model does just that. This recognition from Robb Report further solidifies the GT-R's position amongst the world's elite sports cars, and Nissan is honored to be named among such prestigious company."

About GT-R
Following performance enhancement last year that upped the horsepower and torque of the GT-R's advanced VR38DETT 3.8-liter twin turbo V6 to 545 hp and 463 lb-ft of torque, the development and refinement of Nissan's legendary supercar has continued for the 2014 model year.
Among the notable modifications are improved engine response in the mid-and upper-rpm ranges, increased body rigidity and specification changes to the shock absorbers, front anti-roll bar and springs that result in a lower center of gravity. The result is enhanced high-speed handling and more refined ride comfort. As in previous years, the GT-R engine is hand-assembled in a special clean room - for 2014 an aluminum nameplate is added to each engine showing the name of the individual engine builder.

Other changes include the addition of a new Premium Interior Package, which features hand-stitched Amber Red semi-aniline leather appointments (front seats only). A new red-accented steering wheel is added to Black Edition models.

The interior again features sculpted performance bucket seats for an optimal driving position and a cockpit-style instrument panel with a large center-mounted tachometer and multi-function display - which includes mechanical and driving information, as well as an on-board driving recorder. A specially designed 11-speaker Bose® sound system - which provides sound quality suitable for a supercar, is standard - along with a RearView Monitor.

The 2014 Nissan GT-R is available in three models: GT-R Premium, which comes fully equipped with a 545-horsepower engine, dual clutch rear transmission, Nissan Navigation System, custom-designed 11-speaker Bose® audio system, premium near-black finish wheels and heated front seats; the GT-R Black Edition, with special lightweight metallic black aluminum-alloy forged RAYS® wheels, unique red and black interior, Recaro® leather-appointed seats, dark headliner and dry carbon fiber rear spoiler; and the limited production 2-seat Track Model.

The Track Edition, the GT-R's most exclusive model, is designed to take Nissan's legendary 545-horsepower street supercar even closer to a pure motorsports competition machine. It features a specially tuned suspension, special brake cooling guides, front spoiler with carbon fiber air ducts and a lightweight quilted cloth mat where the rear seats usually reside. Production of the GT-R Track Edition is limited to 150 cars for the U.S. market.
