Put down the cellphone: How NOT to become a statistic

Using a cell phone in your vehicle makes you a much more dangerous driver. It’s a proven fact. Motorists who talked on either handheld or hands-free cell phones drove slightly slower, were 9 percent slower to hit the brakes, displayed 24 percent more variation in following distance as their attention switched between driving and conversing, were 19 percent slower to resume normal speed after braking and were more likely to crash.

So for safety sakes, just put the phone down or pull over to the side if it is that urgent. Safe travels!

Thoughts You Have After Buying A New Car

Buying a new car is an exciting accomplishment! You think about great gas mileage, superior technology, and a smoother, better looking ride. It’s what comes next that you don’t expect. Have you ever experienced any of these thoughts after buying a new car?
1. Mmm that new car smell. There is nothing quite like it. You sit in your vehicle and wish it would stay like this forever!
2. “Hmm, we are going to be out of toilet paper two days from now… better head to the store to get some right now.” Suddenly, the most mundane errands don’t seem so bad anymore with your new car!
3. Volunteering to drive places used to be a drag. Now you just want to drive everywhere! A road trip with your friends is definitely in the back of your mind.

Gas saving tips before summer!

The summer months begin in just over a month, which means higher gas prices…well here are a few easy ways to drive more efficiently that will have you making less visits to the gas station!

5.) Make sure your tires are properly inflated. This is a big one. A single tire that is under inflated by just 2 PSI will lead to a 1% increase in fuel consumption. That adds up faster than you would think if all are slightly under inflated!

4.) Remove as much excess weight from your vehicle as possible. It isn’t winter anymore so you don’t need that heavy sand in the back of your vehicle. The decreased weight will make it easier on your vehicle saving you fuel.

3.) Keep your windows closed. Having them open on the highway will lead to an increased amount of drag on your vehicle, making it work harder than it should.

2.) Use A/C sparingly. We know it’s hot, but you don’t need your car to be 70 degrees inside either. Turn the A/C off when you feel comfortable, you’ll still feel fine and keep your engine happy.

1.) Keep the speeds down. We know you want to get places faster, but by increasing your speeds by 10mph you could be using 15% or more fuel consumption. If you don’t have to go 75 mph then we suggest you don’t!

Summer Saftey tips: Beat the heat

We are here to prepare you for the hot summers ahead, and give you some insight on items you should have readily available in your car, and a few items you should put away now before they melt in your car!

So of course carrying extra water and staying hydrated is extremely important in the summer, we don’t want anyone passing out! But it may be a good idea to purchase a steering wheel cover or if you don’t think you can find any shade to park in a windshield sunshade. Your hands will thank you when you’re trying to drive and they are not forced to touch a steaming hot steering wheel.

In hot climates your car will be working harder than usual. So make sure to regularly service the vehicle with consistent oil changes and have the service department check out that belt while you are there. Also when you crank up your A/C it pushes your battery even harder. So be sure your battery is ready for the tough summers, because we don’t want you getting stranded outside in the 100+ degree weather!

Before you go on any trips remove any plastic from your car such as CD’s, tapes or if you have any kids DVD’s. Also, if you have any cleaning products it would be a good idea to take those out as the chemicals can find their way into your vehicle, and well that’s dangerous for everyone.

So be prepared and follow a few of these guidelines for a fun-filled and safe summer!
