Nissan Frontier Ranked Number One Compact Pickup in Vehicle Satisfaction Survey

Today Autobytel and AutoPacific announced the winners for the 16th annual Vehicle Satisfaction Award, with Nissan Frontier taking top honors in the compact pickup category. This award measures how satisfied new car and light truck buyers are with their recently purchased vehicle and is based on more than 75,000 survey respondents who objectively rate 48 key vehicle attributes on their importance when considering to purchase, as well as satisfaction after purchase.

"The 2012 Frontier has earned numerous accolades for its dependability and value since its launch, and today we celebrate the distinguished honor of providing our valued owners with the highest level of overall satisfaction," said Al Castignetti, vice president and general manager, Nissan Division, Nissan North America. "This award underscores the strong commitment the company has made in delivering quality and reliability while still offering new levels of innovation, fuel-efficiency, dynamic performance and premium style to all our customers."

Combining premium hardware, extraordinary power and off-road athleticism, Frontier continues to be a leader in the mid-size truck segment. The Nissan Frontier emulates many of the Nissan Titan's full-size features, including its bold, expressive and adventurous exterior styling. Frontier utilizes signature Nissan truck themes, including an angled strut grille, large bumpers, short front and rear overhangs and large, stamped steel, geometric fender flares. The 2012 Frontier model lineup consists of Frontier S, Frontier SV, Frontier PRO-4X (4x4 models only) and Frontier SL (Crew Cab only). It is offered in both King Cab and Crew Cab body styles, in 4x2 and 4x4 driveline configurations, offering exceptional levels of family or workplace performance to fit nearly any need or budget.

"The quality of vehicles from all manufacturers has risen to the highest level in history and what delineates a car or truck is owner satisfaction," said George Peterson, president of AutoPacific. "Consumer purchases are often influenced by objective awards especially when they are based on consumer sentiment. It was our goal to get the input from as many consumers as possible because ultimately, it's the consumer's opinion that counts."

The honor from Autobytel and AutoPacific follows four other industry awards for Frontier in 2012. In addition to being listed on Insure.com's annual "Least Expensive To Insure" list, Frontier was named first in the mid-size pickup truck category in the Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA) 2011 Texas Truck Rodeo, and to Kelley Blue Book's "Best Resale Value Award: Top Ten Models" for model year 2012. Notably, J.D. Power and Associates named Frontier as the top mid-size pickup in its 2012 Vehicle Dependability Study.

Nissan's GT Academy Hero, Lucas Ordonez, Joins DeltaWing Test Team

91944_1_5
Nissan's inaugural GT Academy winner, Lucas Ordonez, received his best ever birthday present this week when he was selected to join the test team for the Company's revolutionary motorsport experiment, the Nissan DeltaWing.

As the fourth season of the life-changing GT Academy competition began this week, the very first 'virtual-to-reality' racer received confirmation that he would play a key role in the challenging development of the prototype car.

The Nissan DeltaWing project aims to change the face of motorsport by completing the legendary Le Mans 24 Hours on June 16/17, using half the fuel and half the tyres of its contemporaries and hinting at a more efficient future for endurance racing.

Ordonez, who turned 27 on Tuesday this week, will join Nissan DeltaWing race driver Marino Franchitti at Magny-Cours in France and Motorland Aragon in Spain as the team behind the prototype continues its huge challenge to prepare the radical racer for its race debut.

The challenging development process of the Nissan DeltaWing - which will take to the grid on motorsport's biggest stage just 101 days after first hitting the track - is being charted by a series of 'behind-the-scenes' online films, hosted at http://www.facebook.com/NissanSportsCars.>

The latest in the series, showing how French tire manufacturer, Michelin, created bespoke tires almost as radical as the Nissan DeltaWing itself for the innovative project. The front tires on the Nissan DeltaWing are only four inches wide.

The Michelin episode launched at the website today, to coincide with the latest European test of the car at Magny-Cours, close to Michelin's global HQ, where Ordonez will complete his first laps at the wheel.

Spaniard Ordonez won GT Academy, an innovative competition created by Nissan and Sony that seeks to discover raw driving talent via the Playstation gaming platform. Lucas was the first winner of GT Academy in 2008 and the first student of Nissan's driver development program, which saw him progress through the sportscar ranks and, in just three years, go from virtual racing to reality, lining up for his first Le Mans 24 Hours last summer.

Having taken a podium finish last year, Ordonez will race at La Sarthe again this summer, with the class-winning LMP2 prototype squad, Greaves Motorsport, alongside ex-F1 driver and Sky F1 commentator, Martin Brundle and his son, Alex.

But he said he was honored to be playing an important part in Nissan's pioneering Le Mans experiment and said he will particularly look forward to making his debut behind the wheel for Nissan in his home country: "I have always wanted to test or race for Nissan in Spain but, so far, I have not had the opportunity so that will be exciting for me, personally.

"It was very emotional to be asked by Nissan Europe to test such an important project. I am delighted that they believe in me to help with the work on this prototype car. I can't wait to get in the car, focus and give the best feedback I can to help the development of the project. To be involved in the development of an innovative car like this is another big step in the career of a racing driver."

Darren Cox, General Manager, Nissan in Europe, said: "The GT Academy is a major innovation in motorsport, designed to make the elitist sport of motor racing genuinely accessible to ordinary people, who don't have access to huge budgets. Lucas was our first champion and is living proof that Nissan's different and entirely original way of looking at things can work.

"Lucas has proven himself in every category of motorsport we've put him in and I'm delighted that we have the opportunity to marry Nissan's home-grown talent with its next game-changing initiative.

"Four years ago, Lucas was a student playing computer games and now he is helping to develop the most important motorsport innovation of its generation. We have a colossal journey ahead of us to make the Nissan DeltaWing project come to fruition and I'm proud to say that we couldn't have a better ally than Lucas."

The Nissan DeltaWing team comprises a group of key partners, comprising designer Ben Bowlby, American motorsport entrepreneur Don Panoz, Dan Gurney's All-American Racers organization and Duncan Dayton's Highcroft Racing team.

This group now faces a race against time to make the car race-worthy in time for the world's most gruelling 24-hour race, using Nissan's 1.6-liter direct injection, turbocharged DIG-T engine.

The remainder of its testing schedule will take the Nissan Deltawing engineering team to race circuits across Europe, before joining its fellow Le Mans 24 Hours entrants at the official ACO pre-Le Mans test on June 3.

GT Academy 2012 Gaming Qualification Goes Live

Wcn

The Nissan PlayStation® GT Academy 2012 contest goes ‘LIVE' today. The fourth installment of the highly acclaimed virtual-to-reality racing competition is open to anyone with a PlayStation®3 console by simply downloading a free and brand-new GT Academy qualification challenge themed around the hugely popular Gran Turismo® game. With the ultimate racing prize at stake - an intensive Driver Development training program that has helped turn previous winners into professional racing drivers with Nissan - a huge entry list is expected for this year's competition.

All competitors need is access to a PS3TM connected to the internet and to be registered to the PlayStation®Network. The eight-step online qualification format, developed especially by legendary Gran Turismo® creator Kazunori Yamauchi, will take gamers and motorsport fans on a fun and exciting journey. The variety of challenges reflects the various driving skills required to master the fine art of becoming a professional racing driver. Entrants have eight weeks to complete these adrenaline-fuelled driving contests, ranging from handling powerful Nissan rear-wheel-drive performance cars and mastering cornering techniques at high speeds, through to setting lap times in wet and challenging conditions.

Whether players are enjoying the award-winning Gran Turismo for the first time, or are hardened PlayStation racers, the GT Academy qualification offers racing action for everyone. It's not just about competing with the best GT5 racers, as players can also challenge friends, colleagues and family for bragging rights by monitoring scores via ‘PSN Friends Lists.'

"This time around, we've designed a GT Academy qualification format as part of the Gran Turismo series on an unprecedented scale and aimed towards a wide variety of players," explained Kazunori Yamauchi, President of Polyphony Digital. "This title may be free, but it is a truly independent piece of work and marks a place for itself along our path from GT5 to GT6.

"I felt that the only way to really do it right for the fourth GT Academy was to create a format where not only veteran Gran Turismo players, but also players who have never tried a driving simulator before, can experience the depth of race driving and the fun and excitement of time trials."

Darren Cox, General Manager Nissan in Europe, added: "It is great to see a range of Nissan cars added to this year's online qualification process, as well as new challenges that relate closely to GT Academy's goal of turning PlayStation gamers into real racers. Yamauchi-san's knowledge and passion for racing shines through in the various stages of this exciting new Gran Turismo special download.

"In 2012 more people than ever before will have the opportunity to move from the virtual world to driving real Nissan cars at National Finals and then Race Camp. It is encouraging that they will be better prepared than ever before as a result of these new ‘virtual' qualification challenges."

Anyone from a participating country, aged 18 or over, holding a full driving license, and eligible under the terms and conditions of the competition, can enter GT Academy 2012. The online qualification stage of GT Academy runs until the early hours of Monday, 25 June, 2012 in Europe (closing at 2359 hrs BST on 24 June being 0059 CEST on 25 June). The fastest 16 online gamers from each territory will qualify for National Final events. A maximum of 16 further National Final places will be up for grabs via a series of ‘Live Event' GT5 competitions.

A total of six winners will emerge from each participating GT Academy territory to attend the GT Academy ‘Race Camp' at Silverstone - a ‘boot camp' for aspiring racing drivers. The 2012 GT Academy Champion will then be put through one of the most advanced ‘Driver Development' programs in the world in preparation for competing in the prestigious Dubai International 24 Hour Race in a full race-spec Nissan 370Z GT4 car.

Demonstrating the success of GT Academy as a route into top-level motor sport, the previous winners - Lucas Ordoñez, Jordan Tresson, Jann Mardenborough and Bryan Heitkotter - are all competing in full race programs for Nissan during 2012. Only one question remains: who will be the winner of this year's GT Academy?
